Special Education Assessment Training

There has been a consistent increase in referrals to special education during the past few years. This increase has resulted in special educators assuming a major role in the assessment process in school districts. EPSI Special Education Assessment Training helps prepare special educators as well as school psychologists assess students’ cognitive ability and current levels of academic achievement to determine eligibility.

Many special educators have had extensive preservice assessment training and many have not had the same opportunity or exposure. The EPSI special education assessment training will assist the district to:

  • examine current practices
  • develop an organized assessment process
  • tighten the eligibility process
  • review report writing strategies
  • establish consistency in report writing
  • identify teachers in need of support
  • debunk the myths regarding needs of students with disabilities and English language learners

In addition, special educators and school psychologists will:

  • learn how to administer score and interpret a battery of tests
  • including the Woodcock Johnson III Psychoeducational Battery
  • understand instructional implications based upon results
  • differentiate comprehension skills and strategic fluency
  • review eligibility criteria
  • construct organized reports
  • develop instructional recommendations based upon data collection
  • use Data Driven to Differentiation Strategies
  • scaffold and tier assignments
  • build strategic fluency with LINKS Metacognitive Strategies
